The
Primary Cause of Lost Teeth
Gum disease, rather than tooth decay, is the number one
reason for tooth loss. Gum disease can go completely
unnoticed up to the point of losing your teeth. Common
symptoms are gums that bleed from brushing or flossing,
and teeth that have become loose. If the infection is
treated in the milder stages, it can be reversed with
nonsurgical methods. Once it is advanced, surgery will
be necessary.
Gum
Disease Can Contribute to Heart Disease and
Even Stroke
Many patients think that gum disease is no big deal, as
it is not something you die from. But recent medical
research has revealed that gum disease is linked to
potentially fatal conditions like diabetes, stroke, and
heart disease. Gum infection is now considered a more
serious problem than just losing your teeth. The
bacterial infection in the gums travels throughout the
bloodstream, affecting vital organs. The American
Academy of Periodontology reports, “studies found
periodontal infection may contribute to the development
of heart disease, increase the risk of premature,
underweight births, and pose a serious threat to people
whose health is already compromised due to diabetes and
respiratory diseases.”
The American Dental Association has estimated that a
staggering 80% of Americans have gum infection at
various stages. At such a high percentage, most dentists
consider this an epidemic – and now it has been proven
that infected gums may add to potentially
life-threatening conditions.
Now the Good News
Periodontal disease can be reversed with nonsurgical
methods and improved dental hygiene, if treated before
it reaches an advanced level. It is important to take
care of this infection at the first signs, because if
you wait too long, surgery may be the only option. Both
procedures are generally covered by most dental
insurance.
What’s So Bad about Losing
a Tooth?
Losing even one tooth can cause other teeth to start to
shift or loosen. This is not good, as it affects your
ability to chew and obtain nutrients from your food.
Missing teeth will change your appearance and make you
look older than you are. Your speech may not be as clear
as with a full set of teeth. And if it is difficult to
chew, your food choices may change to soft foods of
higher calories that result in weight gain.
We offer dental implants that replace as many teeth as
are missing. They function and look just like real
teeth, and no one will ever know they are not your
natural teeth.

Missing
Teeth? Why Not ‘Grow’ New Ones?
You will be pleased with the natural look and how well
dental implants function. They are the ideal solution to
replace missing teeth. They appear to be natural, as
they actually come up through the gums. Implants provide
the necessary stability to chew any type of food and
give you a great-looking smile.
They can replace one or many missing teeth. Even those
with no teeth can benefit, as they can stabilize upper
and lower dentures and eliminate embarrassing movement
when you speak or eat. And we handle the whole
procedure, so there is no referral to another office.

Natural-Looking
Crowns Made While You Wait
In
the past, there was always more than one visit to the
dentist for a crown. First there was an appointment for
the temporary. Then there was the wait while a lab makes
the permanent crown. Then a return trip to the dentist
to install the crown. If it doesn’t fit as it should,
the whole process starts over again.
But with the latest technologies, all that has changed.
Instead of a two-week timeframe, in approximately one
hour you can have your permanent crown placed in your
mouth. With CEREC computer-aided design and milling, the
fit will be perfect, and the crown will be durable and
look just like a natural tooth. Patients are very
pleased with this new technique for fitting and
inserting crowns.
The easy process starts with a reflective powder that is
applied to the tooth. With a special camera, a very
accurate picture is taken and displayed on our computer
screen. We then design the restoration and CEREC creates
the crown. We insert and bond the restoration to the
tooth. Like our other patients, you will love how easy
this is!

Orthodontics
– The Clear Alternative
Perhaps
you have wanted straighter teeth, but not the commitment
to the time required for the traditional processes.
Maybe, as a professional adult, you didn’t want the
appearance of metal braces on your teeth. Dr. Stutler is
very pleased to offer his patients Invisalign™ invisible
aligners. They take care of both problems as they
straighten teeth in only
9 - 15 months, and it is not apparent that you are
wearing them.
These state-of-the-art aligners correct wide spaces
between teeth, overbite, crossbite, underbite, and
overcrowding. 3-D computer imaging prepares the complete
treatment plan, starting from the current position of
your teeth to the desired result. A series of aligners
is made to fit over your teeth and gradually move them
to their new position. About every two weeks, you change
to a new set of aligners until your teeth reach the
exact position of your goal. Little time is spent in the
dental chair, since you only need evaluation every one
to two months.

Boosting
Your Confidence
The Invisalign system is innovative while producing the
same results as traditional metal braces. One of the
advantages patients appreciate is that no one knows you
are straightening your teeth, as they are barely
noticeable – even up close.
Then there’s the convenience factor. Though you wear the
aligners all day as well as while you sleep, they are
easily removable for eating and brushing. You can eat
and drink what you want while in treatment, with no food
restrictions. And keeping your teeth clean and free of
plaque is just as easy as it was before treatment,
because there are no braces to get in the way of
brushing and flossing.
Another advantage is comfort. They are all one piece
with no wires to be adjusted or irritating metal to be
checked. No restraining headgear is necessary –
Invisalign aligners simply make it so easy for you to
have a beautiful smile!
