Tartar is a deposit that forms when plaque hardens on the tooth. Individuals vary greatly in their susceptibility to tartar buildup. For many, these deposits build up faster with age. Tartar is easily noticeable because of its yellow or brown color on teeth.
What Causes Tartar Buildup
When plaque accumulates and is not removed from teeth, it can harden and turn into tartar. Because tartar buildup bonds strongly to enamel, it can only be removed by a dental professional.
Help Prevent Tartar Buildup
While tartar can only be removed by a dental professional, you can avoid tartar buildup by removing plaque. To help prevent tartar, be sure to brush your teeth at least twice daily, preferably with a tartar-control fluoride toothpaste like many from Crest, and floss once a day with a product like Glide®. And visit your dental office regularly for oral exams and cleanings.

Breakthrough Provides a Solution For Loose,
Slipping Dentures
If you were told you were not a candidate for implants
because of insufficient bone density, we have good news
for you with mini implants. They will anchor dentures
and relieve you of all the problems of slipping,
tilting, and trapping of food. In one visit, you can
have mini implants that are pain free with no waiting
time for healing. That means the same day, you can eat
whatever you like. They are a small miracle for denture
wearers to bring relief and let you smile even more!
Overdentures – The Answer
for Slipping Dentures
Overdentures can also anchor your denture or bridge and
stop the frustration of slipping or tilting while eating
or speaking. They provide the stability of implants, and
once you experience how well they fit, your confidence
will increase and give you more reason to smile!
If you need dentures, you can be assured we can design a
set that will be very natural looking and fit so well
they won’t slip. With advancements in dental technology,
the denture plate can be anchored securely, so you no
longer will have to worry about slipping or shifting
when eating or speaking. Please ask us about this to
make your life easier.

Dental
Care in Complete Comfort with Sedation Dentistry
With conscious sedation dentistry, every patient can be
comfortable during treatment and free from fear and
anxiety.
It is just a matter of taking one pill an hour before
your appointment. As you sit in the dental chair, you
become more relaxed until you reach a level of sedation
that allows for complete comfort. You are still
conscious and able to respond to any questions.
You are not completely “out” as for surgery. Some
patients worry that they will be unconscious and fear
losing control, but you are still capable of perceiving
what is going on around you. Only your anxieties and
fears are relieved.
For those who are highly resistant to anesthesia and
can’t get numb, conscious sedation dentistry works very
well. And if you don’t have time in your busy schedule
for repeated visits, conscious sedation dentistry lets
more work be performed all in one visit. We also offer
nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, as needed in some cases.

The
Primary Cause of Lost Teeth
Gum disease, rather than tooth decay, is the number one
reason for tooth loss. Gum disease can go completely
unnoticed up to the point of losing your teeth. Common
symptoms are gums that bleed from brushing or flossing,
and teeth that have become loose. If the infection is
treated in the milder stages, it can be reversed with
nonsurgical methods. Once it is advanced, surgery will
be necessary.
Gum
Disease Can Contribute to Heart Disease and
Even Stroke
Many patients think that gum disease is no big deal, as
it is not something you die from. But recent medical
research has revealed that gum disease is linked to
potentially fatal conditions like diabetes, stroke, and
heart disease. Gum infection is now considered a more
serious problem than just losing your teeth. The
bacterial infection in the gums travels throughout the
bloodstream, affecting vital organs. The American
Academy of Periodontology reports, “studies found
periodontal infection may contribute to the development
of heart disease, increase the risk of premature,
underweight births, and pose a serious threat to people
whose health is already compromised due to diabetes and
respiratory diseases.”
The American Dental Association has estimated that a
staggering 80% of Americans have gum infection at
various stages. At such a high percentage, most dentists
consider this an epidemic – and now it has been proven
that infected gums may add to potentially
life-threatening conditions.
Now the Good News
Periodontal disease can be reversed with nonsurgical
methods and improved dental hygiene, if treated before
it reaches an advanced level. It is important to take
care of this infection at the first signs, because if
you wait too long, surgery may be the only option. Both
procedures are generally covered by most dental
insurance.
What’s So Bad about Losing
a Tooth?
Losing even one tooth can cause other teeth to start to
shift or loosen. This is not good, as it affects your
ability to chew and obtain nutrients from your food.
Missing teeth will change your appearance and make you
look older than you are. Your speech may not be as clear
as with a full set of teeth. And if it is difficult to
chew, your food choices may change to soft foods of
higher calories that result in weight gain.
We offer dental implants that replace as many teeth as
are missing. They function and look just like real
teeth, and no one will ever know they are not your
natural teeth.

Missing
Teeth? Why Not ‘Grow’ New Ones?
You will be pleased with the natural look and how well
dental implants function. They are the ideal solution to
replace missing teeth. They appear to be natural, as
they actually come up through the gums. Implants provide
the necessary stability to chew any type of food and
give you a great-looking smile.
They can replace one or many missing teeth. Even those
with no teeth can benefit, as they can stabilize upper
and lower dentures and eliminate embarrassing movement
when you speak or eat. And we handle the whole
procedure, so there is no referral to another office.

Natural-Looking
Crowns Made While You Wait
In
the past, there was always more than one visit to the
dentist for a crown. First there was an appointment for
the temporary. Then there was the wait while a lab makes
the permanent crown. Then a return trip to the dentist
to install the crown. If it doesn’t fit as it should,
the whole process starts over again.
But with the latest technologies, all that has changed.
Instead of a two-week timeframe, in approximately one
hour you can have your permanent crown placed in your
mouth. With CEREC computer-aided design and milling, the
fit will be perfect, and the crown will be durable and
look just like a natural tooth. Patients are very
pleased with this new technique for fitting and
inserting crowns.
The easy process starts with a reflective powder that is
applied to the tooth. With a special camera, a very
accurate picture is taken and displayed on our computer
screen. We then design the restoration and CEREC creates
the crown. We insert and bond the restoration to the
tooth. Like our other patients, you will love how easy
this is!
